The great thing about gardening in southern Louisiana is that we have a long growing season. Here, fall is like a “second spring”, when we get another chance to grow the warm season crops that struggled or clocked out in our relentless summer heat. I’ll be growing another round of tomatoes and cucumbers that my family loves. I’m also starting greens & brassicas– kale, collards, mustards, broccoli, cauliflower, and napa cabbage. Fall gardening is a welcomed reprieve after an intense summer.

Leaf-footed bugs are the biggest hater this year. This pest has been wreaking havoc all across the country. Think of LFBs as a squash bug’s bigger, nastier cousin– they feed on blooms & fruit and LOVE all things nightshade but don’t discriminate. The easiest way to take care of them is to suck them up with a cheap hand vac and keep an eye out for their eggs.

Your garden should tell your story.
